Better late than never

Two belated things that I really ought to have mentioned in dispatches from the previous couple of weeks. First of all, muchly enjoyed the BDO darts on the Beeb, especially the title win from Ted "The Count" Hankey, the man with what is, quite frankly, the best walk on in darts...

The other thing, sadly, was to mourn the loss of the mighty Ricardo Montalban, whose passing prompted nerds all over the world to simutaneously grab their communicators (?!) and angrily proclaim Khaaan!!!!!!!!!!!*

*Actually, I looked up at the sky while crossing the squinty bridge, stopped and shouted "Boss, the plane! the plane!" to much bemused indifference. Bah, fucking philistines...

Pesci have mercy

What a frankly fucking rotten few months the grim reaper has inflicted on the blighted face of humanity. Balls to all the standard issue vileness of war, genocide and famine, I'm talking about some of the funniest people on the planet popping their cloggs, and in quite alarming numbers, too. On this side of the pond, Alan Coren and the sainted Humph have slipped away into the long night. Now, over in the States, I find out that George Carlin has just been taken as well.

If you don't know the great man's work, imagine that the blessed Bill Hicks had an angrier, even more misanthropic grandad with a super high IQ and what we might euphemistically say was a colourful vocabulary and you might get somewhere near the ballpark old George played in. He was 71 so the old yin had a good innings but it's still another monumental pisser for me.

Thankfully, there is bucket loads of him on YouTube, do yourselves a favour and have a gander. Here's one of my favourites to be going on with :

Another of our chaps shot down

Bad enough Ronnie Hazlehurst going the other week, I got a bugger of a shock reading the obituaries in the paper yesterday morning to find that Alan Coren had bought it - no, I don't watch the telly and I hadn't listened to The News Quiz for a wee while (jeez, maybe not since just after Linda Smith slipped this mortal coil, another total solar plexus kick). Hell, I just assumed he'd always be on it, certainly whenever I next decided to tune back in again. Damn and blast. Never Ass-u-me, as Benny Hill used to always say...

Not much YooToob action for the great man as yet, just a great HIGNFY election special here, here and here. Missing you already, old bean :-(
